Red Deer man convicted of making and distributing child pornography sentenced to 42 months

A Red Deer man facing multiple child pornography-related charges has been sentenced to 42 months in jail and given a 10-year firearms prohibition.

Mark Andrada, 21, was convicted on counts of possession of child pornography, distribution of child pornography, and making child pornography, and sentenced in Red Deer court of Justice on Dec. 20, 2023.

Andrada was arrested and charged after Red Deer General Investigative Section (GIS) conducted a joint investigation with ALERT’s Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) unit.

They confirmed the joint efforts in the lengthy inter-agency investigation which led to the arrest of Andrada.

He was initially charged on May 11, 2023, with the following Criminal Code Offences:

1. Possession of child pornography

2. Exporting child pornography

3. Accessing child pornography

4. Print/ publish/ make child pornography

5. Luring a child

Police alleged Andrada engaged in sexually explicit online chats with a young female victim in the state of Illinois. They say the victim was sextorted into providing photos and videos, which the accused later tried to sell. RCMP confirm the U.S. FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation) was involved in the investigation.
