Ponoka RCMP charge alleged copper wire thief
Ponoka RCMP say one person has been charged in related to copper wire theft.
On Dec. 20, at about 3:30 a.m., RCMP received a report of a break and enter in progress at a rural commercial property off Highway 2A in Ponoka County.
Upon arrival, officers say they located a vehicle allegedly attempting to flee the area by crashing through a fence. Shortly after, the vehicle became immobile in a ditch, and the driver was arrested.
A search of the property indicates the suspect was attempting to steal copper wire, police say. Damages caused to the site are estimated to be between $15,000 and $20,000.
