A Wetaskiwin man accused of murder is due to find out next summer if his case has enough evidence to go to trial.

Matyrus Minde, 25, is scheduled for a preliminary hearing in Wetaskiwin Court of Justice on July 22, 2024.

He is charged with one count of second-degree murder.

It was on Sept. 29, 2023, when Maskwacis RCMP responded to an aggravated assault on Ermineskin First Nation.

According to Mounties, the victim, a 52-year-old male resident of Maskwacis, was transported to the hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Ther RCMP’s Major Crimes Unit took over the investigation, in partnership with Maskwacis RCMP General Investigation Section, Maskwacis RCMP, Red Deer Forensic Identification Unit and the Edmonton Medical Examiner’s office.

Minde was charged following that investigation.
