Rebels bounce back with 2-1 win in Prince Albert

The season series between the Red Deer Rebels and Prince Albert Raiders is now square at one win apiece, after the visiting Rebels knocked off PA 2-1 Saturday night.

The Rebels are on the tail end of a road trip, while the Raiders are in the midst of four straight at home. PA and Red Deer played back on Oct. 6, the Rebels’ fourth game of the season, with PA winning 6-2 that night.

Despite being third in the East, Prince Albert sports that division’s worst home record — 6-6-0-1 coming in. Meantime, the 8th in the Eastern Conference Rebels came in 6-6-0-3 away from home.

Goals were hard to come by in this one, and the first wasn’t scored until early in the second period.

At 2:02 of the middle frame, Zane Saab (1st) scored his first career WHL goal in his 15th career game, giving Red Deer a 1-0 lead.

Red Deer extended its lead with 56 seconds remaining in the second, Talon Brigley (10th) scoring on the power play what was the eventual game-winner.

Unfortunately, Chase Wutzke and the Rebels couldn’t quite hold on for the shutout, as Sloan Stanick (12th) got one over the goal line with just 1:07 remaining in regulation.

But the Rebels did keep their grasp on the lead, and earned an important two points.
