Red Deer man sentenced in luring incident

A Red Deer man accused of luring a Regina girl two years ago has been given a two-year conditional sentence and two years of probation.

Jeremie Raphael Roy, 36, was sentenced in Calgary Court of Justice on Nov. 30, 2023, after being convicted on counts of make/print/publish child pornography, and luring a child under 16 years.

There was also a judge’s order for Roy to submit a DNA sample, be registered as a sex offender, and a list of items to be seized.

A joint investigation between Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) units in Saskatchewan and Alberta led to the arrest of a Red Deer man police alleged was grooming and luring a young girl from Regina.

ALERT’s ICE unit arrested a suspect on January 21, 2021.

Roy was identified by Saskatchewan ICE as allegedly sharing sexually explicit materials and luring a young girl via a social media application. The alleged offences date back to October 2019.

Roy was initially charged with invitation to sexual touching, child luring, making child pornography, possession of child pornography, accessing child pornography and making sexually explicit material available to a child.
