Back-To-Back Wins Over Calgary

Rebels netminder Stoesser named WHL Goaltender of the Week

The Western Hockey League announced on Monday that Red Deer Rebels netminder Rhett Stoesser has been named WHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending November 19, 2023.

The 19-year-old Carstairs, Alta. puck stopper earned his second shutout of the season and rode a 1.00 goals-against average and .971 save percentage to snatch back-to-back wins over the Calgary Hitmen this past week.

Stoesser stopped all 40 shots he faced in a 3-1 win at the Scotiabank Saddledome on Nov. 17, locking up first-star honours.

WHL officials say the 6’1.5, 183-pound netminder continued the dominant performance the next night at Red Deer’s Peavey Mart Centrium, where he turned aside 26 of 28 shots to deny Calgary’s comeback attempt and be named second-star of the game.

Stoesser (4-4-0-1) sits fifth in the WHL with a tidy .912 save percentage and sixth with a paltry 2.37 goals-against average and is heating up with points in four of his last five starts.

He was named a WHL Central Division First Team All-Star in 2022-2023 with a 19-6-0-0 record, supported by a 2.35 goals-against average and .910 save percentage.

Stoesser was listed by the Red Deer Rebels after going undrafted and is 23-10-0-1 in 36 career stars for the Rebels, posting a 2.36 goals-against average, a .913 save percentage and four shutouts.

The Rebels (8-9-0-3) kick off a five-game home-stand against the Brandon Wheat Kings (9-9-4-1) on Friday, Nov. 24 at 7:00 p.m. MST.
