RCMP release photos of vehicle of interest in Ponoka homicide

Mounties in Ponoka have released the name of the victim in a local homicide earlier this month.

On Nov. 10, 2023, Ponoka RCMP located a male deceased in his home on 57 Avenue in Ponoka, AB. Following an autopsy, police say the deceased person’s identity was confirmed as 37-year-old Derek Westling. RCMP are treating the death as a homicide.

RCMP are looking for the public’s help in locating and identifying a vehicle seen in the area at the time of the offence.

However, Mounties say there is no information to suggest there is a risk to the general public at this time.

The investigation is ongoing and the RCMP appreciates the public’s assistance and will actively monitor and follow up on tips.
