Queens (6-2) vs Concordia University Thunder (3-5)

  • Friday, November 17 at 6 p.m. in Red Deer

Following a three-set loss to the Kings University Eagles this past weekend, the Queens are eager to get back in the win column and play on their home court for the first time in three weeks.

After their loss in Edmonton, the Queens fell to a 6-2 record which places them tied for first place in the ACAC South Division with the Briercrest College Clippers. In the first CCAA national rankings of the season, the Queens were placed in sixth going into last weekend’s match against the Eagles.

The rankings were adjusted on November 14 and will continue to be updated every Tuesday during the season leading up to the national championships hosted by Red Deer Polytechnic from March 6 – 9.

RDP and Concordia last faced off this past January with the Queens falling in five sets. Middle-blocker Autumn Roos (Bachelor of Education) had a team-high 10 kills and six blocks. This season she is averaging just less than a block-per-set which puts her tied for first place in the ACAC.

The match will start at 6 p.m. with the Queens finishing their weekend with a bye on Saturday.

Kings (8-0) vs Concordia University Thunder (1-7)

  • Friday, November 17 at 8 p.m. in Red Deer

The Kings will look to keep their impressive undefeated season alive as they welcome the Concordia University Thunder to town on Friday evening in their lone match this weekend.

RDP is coming off a four-set victory against The Kings University Eagles this past Friday night in Edmonton while the Thunder were victorious in their last match against the SAIT Trojans on Saturday.

In last season’s lone match, the Kings swept the Thunder in three straight sets with left-side Colby Nemeth (Bachelor of Commerce) and right-side Brett Lower (Bachelor of Science in Nursing) leading the Kings to victory with nine kills each.

The match will start following the end of the Queens game on Friday. It is worth noting that in week one of the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) national rankings, the Kings were near the top just missing out on the top spot as they were placed in second behind the Fanshawe Falcons of the Ontario Collegiate Athletic Association (OCAA).

Kings (5-1) vs The Kings University Eagles (0-6)

  • Saturday, November 18 at 8 p.m. in Red Deer

The Kings will put their four-game winning streak on the line this weekend as they look to stay near the top of the ACAC South Division standings. There is currently a three-way tie for first with SAIT and St. Mary’s all having a 5-1 record.

On Friday night, the Kings will head out to Edmonton to clash with the Concordia University Thunder. Last season, RDP defeated the Thunder 77-63 with guard Eduardo Crespo (Business Diploma) finishing with 18 points in the win. In Crespo’s first two games back off an injury this year, he made an impact on the floor which led to back-to-back player of the game awards.

The following day, the Polytechnic will welcome The Kings University Eagles to the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre for an 8 p.m. tip-off. The Eagles are currently looking for their first win of the season. These two teams battled in a hard-fought game on November 11, 2022 with the Kings walking away with a 94-90 victory. Crespo had an impressive game against the Eagles as he finished with 29 points in the win.

Centre Jose Mauro (Business Diploma) heads into the two upcoming games this weekend sitting in fourth place in the conference with 11.2 rebounds per game. The Kings placed sixth in week one of the national rankings last Tuesday, November 7 with their rivals, the SAIT Trojans taking the top spot in the nation.

Queens (10-2) vs NAIT Ooks (9-3)

  • Saturday, November 18 at 7 pm.. in Red Deer

The Queens will have a bye on Friday before clashing with the NAIT Ooks on Saturday evening at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre Arena. RDP is coming off back-to-back victories this past weekend which extends their winning streak to eight games. The Ooks will also enter this weekend red hot as they are coming off two victories over the Lakeland College Rustlers who are sitting in third place in the conference.

The Queens enter this weekend’s game with a 2-0 record against NAIT this season. The Polytechnic has outscored the Ooks 7-3 in their two games against each other with forward Camryn Ward (Bachelor of Kinesiology) assisting on three of those goals. She was later named the ACAC Athlete of the Week for a three-point performance against one of the top teams in the conference.

Despite having the overall edge over NAIT, RDP will have their hands full with the Ooks having the top two scorers in the ACAC right now. Cheyenna Harden has 17 points while her teammate Cassidy Shandro has 16. Queens Avery Lajeunesse (Bachelor of Education) is the next athlete on this list with 13. Palumbo and Ward are tied with 1.17 goals-against-average but Palumbo has the edge in save percentage with a .954 average while Ward has a .944 average.
