Red Deer’s Aeva Lott, 17, is fresh off representing Canada at the Ringette World Championships in Calgary this past weekend.

The Notre Dame student played 11 years of ringette in Red Deer before joining a U19AA Zone 2 team in Calgary this season.

In Calgary, she backstopped the Team Canada West squad, which competed in a three-team U18 Development Program division along with Team Canada East and Finland.

Lott played in both exhibition games, with Canada West winning each time. In a 7-3 win against Canada East, Lott allowed one goal, and then allowed just two in a 6-5 victory against Finland.

“Being apart of the U18 Development Team and helping my team win against Finland was an experience of a lifetime,” says Lott. “I am honoured to represent not only my country, but the next generation of ringette athletes across Canada. Being a part of Ringette Canada and wearing the maple leaf has always been a dream of mine.”

Lott will try out next for the junior national team.

“I didn’t always want to be a goalie when I first started playing ringette at age five, but once I watched my older brother play, it soon became an interest of mine,” she says of her older brother, who plays hockey. “Over the years, I have learned so many different things about my position and how to be better. I love going to goalie camps and learning ways to improve my skills.”

The 17-year-old is a student at Notre Dame High School in Red Deer.
