Eat, drink, shop: Experience magic at Bower Place’s Charity Shopping Event this November

Nov 8, 2023 | 11:14 AM

There’s a famous scene in the classic Christmas movie Elf. Buddy the Elf, played by Will Ferrell, sneaks into the shopping mall overnight to decorate the entire place in Christmas décor for Santa’s arrival.

On November 19, Bower Place will be doing something just like this for Red Deerians.

On Sunday night from 6:30 – 10 p.m., the shopping mall will be specially open for the return of their “Magic of Bower Place: Charity Shopping Event”.

Eliza Mudryk, Marketing Coordinator for Bower Place, describes the event as “walking into magic” to kick off Christmas and the holiday shopping season.

Ticket holders will get the opportunity to experience an exclusive shopping experience, with holiday mocktails upon entering the fully decorated mall. Stores will be open with special one-night sales before Black Friday as guests immerse themselves in live music performed by the Red Deer Symphony Orchestra, heard in all corners of the mall. Cocktails and desserts will be sold throughout the area for guests to enjoy while they shop, with a portion of the proceeds donated for the cause.

Not only will Santa Claus and another special guest be present for the evening, but live mannequins will don the latest fashion. A man cave will also be set up near Tommy Gun’s barbershop, providing complimentary beard, neck, and mustache trims next to a brewery serving craft beers.

Alongside $15,000 in door prize from various tenants and sponsors, the best part of all is all is 100 per cent of ticket sales are donated to local charities.

All tickets sold online and through Guests Services will go towards this year’s charity of choice, Aspire Special Needs Resource Centre; however, 14 charities will be receiving a portion of the remaining funds, with applications still being taken.

“Every year we have charities that apply to be our charity of choice and we just know how much they give back to our community and wanted to be able to give back to them,” she said.

Murdyk says they are hoping to raise $55,000, with 4,000 tickets available, 1,000 being for VIP sales.

“It’s so important to the community, especially this season, it’s one of the hardest seasons to do fundraising and to get money for your charity so if we can give back, and this is how we can give back, and make it a fun evening out for everyone and it benefits so many people than that’s what matters most,” she said.

VIP tickets are $25 for adults only and include early access at 6:30 p.m., a custom tote bag, $10 gift card to the mall, complimentary tickets for one drink, coat check, and photo with Santa, an additional door prize entry, and $10 off any service at Tommy Gun’s.

Those with general admission tickets can arrive at 7 p.m. and all children under nine do not require a ticket.

Mudryk says tenants were excited to participate in the event as six years ago, the mall would host their annual Red & White Night charity shopping event, with a specific section for VIP ticket holders. She says this year will be bigger and better, with a focus on the event being spread throughout the entire mall for all guests.

“Nobody should miss out on this night; it’s a fantastic way to just get out and be a part of the community,” she said.

Tickets are cash only and can be purchased online, at Guest Services, or directly from charities themselves, listed on Bower Place’s website.

If tickets remain, they will be sold at the door. The entrance for the magical night will be at the Northwest Entrance by Motion Fitness, and the second entrance will be at the South Entrance by the food court.
