MEDICINE HAT, AB – A nearly half-million-dollar donation to the Community Foundation of Southeastern Alberta will support youth education and recreational needs to a nearby village.

The $446,000 donation came through a bequest from the late Thomas Bories, who lived in the village of Foremost.

““We are extremely grateful to receive our first bequest to the Rural Community Fund of Forty Mile,” said Clint Thacker, advisory committee chair of the Rural Community Fund of Forty Mile, which supports the local county.

“This bequest is a true game changer for charities in the County of Forty Mile. Thomas Bories will be forever remembered as a generous philanthropist in our region, specifically to the community of Foremost where he lived.”

Bories’s executor said he decided to move to the Foremost area after spending time hunting there 35 years ago. He purchased property and made it his home.

“He wanted to leave a legacy to say thank you to a community that he loved,” Lorne Buis, the executor, said in a statement.

For those considering leaving a donation like that of Bories, the Community Foundation suggests considering joining the Heritage Club. Heritage Club Members are those who have included CFSEA in their future plans with a gift through a bequest, life insurance, trust arrangement, or another asset of choice.
