Innisfail Eagles 1-1 on season, vying for Allan Cup berth

Nov 2, 2023 | 9:34 AM

The Chinook Hockey League season is underway, with the Innisfail ‘Southern’ Eagles scraping a win together this past weekend against the Stony Plain ‘Northern’ Eagles.

Stony Plain had previously beat Innisfail 7-6 in OT, but in the early season rematch, Innisfail skated away with 4-2 road win.

The two teams are duking it out this year for a chance to represent the Pacific region in the Allan Cup.

Last Saturday, Innisfail was down 2-1 after 40 minutes but scored three unanswered in the final frame to take it, while Chance Clark stopped 49 of 51 shots in net.

Innisfail peppered Stony Plain’s Wyatt Hoflin with 45 shots.

Season schedule

Stony Plain: Glenn Hall Centennial Arena

Nov. 4 @ Innisfail – 8 p.m.

Nov. 11 @ Stony Plain – 7:45 p.m.

Innisfail and Stony Plain will also play exhibition series against the Powell River Regals.

Innisfail travels to the Island to play the Regals Dec. 8 and 9, and a return trip by the Regals is being planned for January or February.

The Regals are B.C.’s representative for a shot at the Allan Cup, and would play in the McKenzie Cup versus Innisfail or Stony Plain for a chance to advance to the Allan Cup.

According to Allan Cup officials, the 2024 edition will be hosted April 19-25 by the Hamilton-area Dundas Real McCoys.
