Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools celebrated the grand opening of its newest school this week, St. Lorenzo Ruiz Middle School in Kentwood.

The school has an innovative design and cutting-edge facilities, bolstering the middle school experience for its grade 6-9 students.

From design to construction, the school was erected thanks to the work of Group2 Architecture, WSP Mechanical Engineering, WSP Electrical Engineering, Read Jones Christofferson Engineering, Clark Builders, World Class Contracting, AltaPro Electric, Collins Steel, Kerr Interiors and KTJ Consulting.

Construction began in early 2022, and it opened this September.

“The opening of St. Lorenzo Ruiz Middle School is a testament to our commitment to providing students with an exceptional learning environment,” says Murray Holman, board chair. “This school represents not only bricks and mortar but also dreams and opportunities for the future. We are proud to offer a space that encourages students to explore their passions and reach their full potential.”

Adds school principal, Rob Coumont: “Our focus is not only on providing high-quality catholic education with a focus on academic success and Authentic Learning but also on creating a nurturing and inclusive community where every student feels valued and inspired.”

The main school building has a capacity of about 537, or 737 with its modular units.
