Oct 23, 2023 | 4:16 PM

Here are the Weekly Top-10 Rankings for all four Tiers of 12-man high school football in Alberta and the 6-man rankings as well for the 2023 season.

These rankings come out every Sunday until November 6. At that time those will be the last rankings and teams will take this rank into Provincials

The teams are slotted into Tiers based on their estimated school size by the Alberta Schools’ Athletic Association. Some re-sorting of Tier’s will take place after the final officials population numbers are recorded at the end of September. Please note that games vs. US opponents, scrimmages, or tournaments are not taken into consideration for ranking or listed in the overall record of the schools.

GAME OF THE WEEK:

Provincial Qualifier!

Tier II

#5 Strathmore Spartans at #3 Holy Trinity Academy Knights

7:00 p.m., Thursday, October 26, Cobra Field (Cochrane)

It’s that time of year again. Time for Zones to sort out who will be their reps to the ASAA Provincials starting on the Nov. 11th weekend. Usually, it is done through League Playoffs with little fuss…and then there is the South Central Zone. The ASAA’s South Central Zone stretches from Canmore in the west to Hanna in the east and from High River in the south to Olds in the north completely encircling Calgary. For football it also encompasses two separate leagues and three independent teams. Quite a mess to sort out in a short period of time. At Tier II its particularly touchy since eight teams can qualify for the two berths into Provincials.

This Thursday is how it starts. HTA will play Strathmore to determine the seeding for the “Independent” teams. As well this week, W.H. Croxford will play Springbank for the second seed out of the Rockyview since Cochrane already has the #1 seed locked up out of that league. Then the Nov .3/4 week there will be two crossover games featuring Independent #1 vs. Rockyview #2 and Rockyview #1 vs. Independent #2 to determine the two South Central Zone Reps. Who gets which spot and goes where after that? Well, we’ll worry about that later.

BEST OF THE REST

Take your pick! With the exception of the Foothills vs. Raymond game, all of the listed above games are playoff games of one kind or another. Win or go home for most of them makes this a very exciting time of the year!
