The Red Deer Rebels gave no chance to the Edmonton Oil Kings on Tuesday night, winning with a 4-0 shutout at Rogers Place.

Their fourth game against the Oil Kings, this is the Rebels’ third win.

In the first period, Red Deer’s Carson Latimer repeated his success from Sunday’s game and opened the scoring early in the match-up. Picking up a bouncing puck in the slot, he scored with a wrist shot at 3:45, his sixth goal of the season, on Edmonton’s goaltender Logan Cunningham. With Samuel Drancak and Kalan Lind claiming the assists, the Rebels now led 1-0.

After 20 minutes, the Rebels were outshooting the Oil Kings 11-8.

In the middle frame, Red Deer’s Talon Brigley earned his third goal of the season with a wrist shot from the faceoff circle at 13:15. Pushing the team’s lead 2-0, Carson Birnie and Elias Carmichael got the apple.

Just 26 short seconds later, as Edmonton’s Rhys Pederson sat in the box for interfering, Rebels Captain Kai Uchacz took advantage of the power play, dabbing the puck over the glove as he stood on the edge of the crease. His fourth goal this season, all against the Oil Kings, was assisted by Latimer and Mats Lindgren, extending their team’s lead to 3-0.

The Oil Kings outshot the Rebels in the second period but remained without goals.

Although the Rebels had Lind sent to the box for roughing in the final period, the Oil Kings had both Pederson and Marshall Finnie given the same penalty, leaving the visitors with the man advantage. Red Deer’s Jhet Larson tipped his second goal of the season in front of the crease at 11:22. Ollie Josephson and Quentin Bourne claimed the assists on the power play goal, leading the team to a 4-0 win.

The Rebels held puck dominance in the third period against the Oil Kings with 14-9 shots on goal.

The Rebels are sitting with a record at 4-3-0-1 while the Oil Kings are 3-6-0-1 this season.
