Red Deer RCMP respond to double fatal motor vehicle collision on Highway 2A

Oct 12, 2023 | 3:20 PM

A two-vehicle collision on Highway 2A this Wednesday claimed the lives of two Red Deerians.

On October 11 at 2:14 p.m., Red Deer RCMP Traffic Services say they responded to a two-vehicle collision, involving a Ford Fusion and a Dodge 3500 at the intersection of Highway 2A and Township Road 391.

RCMP arrived to the location and both Fire and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) were on scene.

The driver of the Fusion, a 76-year-old female resident of Red Deer, was declared deceased at the scene. The passenger of the Fusion, an 81-year-old male resident of Red Deer, was transported to hospital by EMS and later succumbed to his injuries.

The lone male occupant and driver of the Dodge 3500 was not physically injured.

RCMP Collision Analysts were called to the scene and say a thorough investigation has been conducted.

RCMP have determined that the Ford Fusion was initially travelling northbound on Hwy 2A. The Fusion made a U-turn on Township Road 391, across Hwy 2A, and failed to yield to on-coming traffic. The Fusion pulled out in front of the Dodge pick-up truck and was struck.

Red Deer RCMP send their condolences to the family of the deceased.
