Red Deer RCMP says they spent the last month educating students on back to school safety and the city’s community standard bylaws.

While September marks when students from across the community return back to school, the RCMP’s Youth and Community Action Team (YCAT) spent the month visiting numerous schools throughout the city to speak with students about bullying and fighting.

Under the city’s Community Standards Bylaw:

  • Bullying carries a penalty of $125 for the first offence, $250 for the second and $500 for the third and subsequent offences.
  • Fighting carries a penalty of $500 for the first offence, $750 for the second and $1000 for the third and subsequent offences.
