The 0-1-0-0 Red Deer Rebels entered Saturday night seeking redemption against the Edmonton Oil Kings.

It was just last season the Rebels won all nine matchups against an Oil Kings team that finished last in the Central Division, but at home on Friday lost their season opener 4-2.

On Saturday, in the back half of a home-and-home, this time in the capital, Red Deer defeated Edmonton by a score of 4-3.

Scoring summary

It took exactly 19 minutes, but Edmonton got on the board first Saturday when Marshall Finnie (2nd) scored for the second night in a row, both times the game’s opening goal. It was 1-0 home team after 20 minutes.

In the second, goals came fast and furious.

At the 8:55 mark, Red Deer drew even on the power play, Jhett Larson (1st) doing the deed.

Just 1:05 later, at the game’s halfway mark, Ollie Josephson (1st) put the visitors in the lead 2-1.

Another 37 seconds after that, Marc Lajoie (1st) said nuh-uh, not so fast, and equalized for Edmonton.

And 1:54 later, Edmonton retook the lead when Finnie (3rd) scored yet again to put the Oil Kings up 3-2 after 40.

Time was slipping away in the third when finally the Rebels broke through — Talon Brigley (1st) made a game of it at the 13:35 mark, tying things at three.

Then with 2:19 left in regulation, Kai Uchacz (2nd) out the Rebels back on top for good, and Red Deer skated away with two points.

On this night, both goalies which backed up on Friday got the start. For Red Deer, Chase Wutzke stopped 29 of 32 shots in the win, while Logan Cunningham made 32 saves on 36 shots faced.
