Red Deer RCMP respond to fatal hit and run

On Sept. 17, 2023 at 9:07 p.m., Red Deer RCMP were called to 4217 50 Ave. to assist with a pedestrian collision.

RCMP continue their investigation with the assistance of the RCMP Traffic Collision Analyst, and the General Investigation Section.

The 32-year-old, male pedestrian from Red Deer, died as a result of his injuries. Mounties say the victim’s name will not be released.

As a result of the on-going investigation, RCMP have charged Carter Mather, 20, a resident of Red Deer with the following:

  • Failure to stop after an accident resulting in death

Police say Mather was held for a judicial interim release hearing and was released to appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Red Deer on Oct. 16, 2023.

RCMP say no further updates will be provided.

One person is dead following a collision between a vehicle and pedestrian in downtown Red Deer Sunday night.

On Sept. 17, 2023 at 9:07 p.m., Red Deer RCMP were called to 4217 50 Ave. to assist with a collision between a pedestrian and motor vehicle.

RCMP arrived to the location with both Fire and EMS already on scene.

Mounties say witnesses reported that a vehicle was driving southbound on Gaetz Avenue, when it collided with a pedestrian. The driver of the vehicle fled from the scene.

According to police, the 32-year-old, male pedestrian from Red Deer, died as a result of his injuries.

RCMP say the driver of the vehicle turned themselves into police, and has since been arrested. Mounties say charges are pending against the driver.

Red Deer RCMP continue to investigate the collision.

According to local Mounties, further information will be provided once available.
