Trial dates scheduled in Ponoka teen’s death

Sep 13, 2023 | 2:29 PM

Trial dates have been set for two Wetaskiwin residents charged in the death of a young Ponoka man last year.

Adam James Cook, 28, and Morgan Maslin, 21, are scheduled for a three-week trial in Wetaskiwin Court of Justice from Dec. 2-20, 2024.

The pair were ordered to stand trial in Wetaskiwin Court of Justice on Aug. 16, 2023, at the start of their preliminary hearing to determine if their case had enough evidence to go to trial.

It was on July 8, 2022, at 8:25 p.m., when Wetaskiwin RCMP responded to a report of an altercation on 40 Avenue, east of 56 Street in Wetaskiwin.

When first responders arrived on scene, RCMP say they located a male with life-threatening injuries. Mounties say the victim, identified as Antwon Bull, 19, of Ponoka, succumbed to his injuries later that evening in hospital.

Police say the subsequent investigation resulted in the Alberta RCMP’s Major Crimes Unit charging two males with one count each of second-degree murder.
