Special Air Quality Statement issued for Red Deer and surrounding region
A Special Air Quality Statement is in effect for the Red Deer-Ponoka-Innisfail-Stettler area.
Officials with Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) say smoke is causing or expected to cause poor air quality and reduced visibility.
Other affected areas also include Rocky Mountain House-Caroline, Airdrie-Cochrane-Olds-Sundre, and Drumheller-Three Hills.
Officials say wildfire smoke concentrations can fluctuate over short distances and vary considerably from hour to hour. They further point out that wildfire smoke can be harmful to everyone’s health even at low concentrations.
