New physicians are practicing in Innisfail, Olds and Rimbey, according to Alberta Health Services.

A general practice physician with enhanced anesthesia skills (EAS) by the name of Dr. Colton Lewis began working July 1 at the Innisfail Health Centre and Olds Hospital and Care Centre, Peaks to Prairies Primary Care Network, and Wildrose Medical Clinic in Olds.

Dr. Lewis’s arrival gives Olds 15 GPs (four with EAS), and Innisfail 11 (one with EAS).

“Dr. Lewis’ skills in family medicine and anesthesia, and his passion for rural Alberta, will make him a tremendous asset,” says Nathan Cooper, MLA for Olds-Didsbury-Three Hills. “We are pleased to welcome Dr. Lewis to Alberta’s dynamic central Corridor.”

Lewis, who was raised in rural Alberta, has been a locum physician in Olds, Innisfail, Rocky Mountain House, Red Deer, Inuvik and Whitehorse. He went to school at the University of Alberta and the University of Calgary.

“When you are part of a rural community no two days are the same, but you make an impact for your community regardless,” he says. “I look forward to developing long lasting relationships in the community and for my family being given the opportunity to grow as well.”

Meantime in Rimbey, Dr. Jude Unuafe is a general practice physician working out of the Rimbey Care Centre and Rimbey Medical Clinic (5046 49th Ave.) He is accepting new patients and can be reached at 1-403-843-2256.

Rimbey now has seven physicians.

“The arrival of a new GP is wonderful news,” says Jason Nixon, MLA for Rimbey-Rocky Mountain House-Sundre. “Dr. Unuafe and his family are a welcome addition to the community and he is sure to be a great asset to Rimbey and the surrounding area.”

Dr Unuafe received his medical training in Nigeria and previously practiced there and in South Africa.
