Funnel cloud advisory issued for Red Deer

At 11:33 a.m. on Aug. 23, Environment and Climate Change Canada issued a weather advisory for the Red Deer area.

They say funnel clouds are possible from near noon until early this evening.

The advisory may be extended to the east this afternoon, ECCC states.

“These types of funnel clouds are generated by weak rotation under rapidly growing clouds or weak thunderstorms. This weak rotation is normally not a danger near the ground. However, there is a chance that this rotation could intensify and become a weak landspout tornado.”
