Red Deer Public Library: August 17

Upcoming First Thursday Concert to feature oud performance

Aug 10, 2023 | 4:31 PM

The Friends of the Red Deer Public Library (Downtown Branch) have announced a special First Thursday concert next week.

On August 17, oud player Hassan Tahir will be performing in the downtown library’s Snell Auditorium (4818 49 St.) from 12:15 – 1 p.m.

The oud is a plucked string instrument of North Africa and Middle Eastern origin with a short neck and lack of frets.

Tahir is a musician, singer and composer, specializing in playing the oud and tabl drums.

The Red Deer Public Library is asking guests to pre-register for the concert on their website, in the Upcoming Events section.

For those unable to attend in person, the concert will be streamed live on the library’s YouTube channel and at rdpl.org/first-thursday.

The Library says they would like to thank those who have made donations in support of the First Thursday concerts. They say the funds have been used to pay fees and expenses for the musicians presenting at the Library. For those wishing to support the concerts, cheques should be made out to the Red Deer Public Library, with a memo for CONCERTS. A charitable receipt will be issued.
