Support youth entrepreneurs this Saturday at Sylvan Lake’s first Lemonade Day

Aug 10, 2023 | 3:15 PM

The Town of Sylvan Lake’s first Lemonade Day is taking place this Saturday with 17 stands to choose from.

On August 12, participating kids, aged eight to 11, will open and operate their own lemonade stands, learning how to be their own boss, create a business plan, budget, set goals, serve customers, and make hard-earned cash.

Announced in May 2023, there are now 17 stands registered across town.

On the website’s interactive map, each stand has it’s own “store name” like Sweetest Lemonade in Town, Lemonade Stand with Hugs, and Happy Lemonade.

Beside the stand’s address are its hours of operation, the earliest beginning at 10 a.m., and individual menu items, including flavoured lemonades, like raspberry or lavender, homemade cookies, candy, and more.

The day was founded in 2007 by Michael Holthouse, a prominent business man in Texas, to support youth and experiential learning.

The program is free and once kids cover their expenses with the profits earned, they get to keep the rest. Officials say kids are encouraged to save their profits, share them with the community and spend a bit on themselves as a reward.
