Cougar sighting reported in Lethbridge

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) is warning the public that a cougar could possibly be around Scenic Drive South.

On June 27, 2023, at approximately 1:30 a.m. police responded to a report that a cougar was observed on the north side of Mountain View Cemetery.

According to the report, the animal was spotted near the Flame of Hope but police were unable to confirm the sighting once on scene.

While unconfirmed, Fish and Wildlife have been notified of the incident.

Given the proximity of the sighting to nearby homes and the Scenic Drive Dog Run, LPS is urging caution to the public to be aware of the possibility of a cougar in the area.

Police were notified of another cougar sighting on Friday, June 23, at around 8:00 p.m in the upper coulees of Pavan Park.

If you come into contact with a cougar, people are asked not to run or play dead.
