Alberta NDP announces shadow cabinet and other leadership roles

Jun 27, 2023 | 4:00 PM

The Alberta NDP announced its new shadow cabinet and other caucus leadership roles on Tuesday.

The Rachel Notley-led NDP won 38 seats in the recent provincial election to form the Official Opposition in the Alberta Legislature for the next four years.

“We have an incredible, diverse and committed caucus — and we are focused on what matters to Albertans. We promised a better future for Albertans and that’s exactly what we intend to deliver for them,” said Notley.

“We will not only be the largest Official Opposition in Alberta history, but also the most effective. We have so much work to do. We will hold the government to account and demand better for Albertans while also putting forward our own ideas. I am so excited for this team to come together and represent Albertans while putting ourselves in a position to form the next provincial government.”

Notley says priorities include developing ideas to create good-paying jobs in critical economic sectors, and holding Premier Danielle Smith to account for what the opposition says is, “breaking the law and threatening Alberta’s democracy.”
