City moves development permit applications online

Jun 18, 2023 | 10:00 AM

Red Deerians will apply for development permits virtually, starting June 20.

This after the City’s launch of new software for building permit applications last year.

According to the City, customers will apply for commercial development permits online via MyPermits. In addition to digital application and plan submission, the ProjectDox software allows for plan review, mark-up and approval.

“By shifting to a digital environment, we can provide more effective and efficient service to our customers,” said Amy Fengstad, Acting Inspections and Licensing Manager. “The recent improvements to development and building permit application processes are a significant milestone towards our goal of making Inspections and Licensing services more readily available to citizens.”

The project is a continuation of Enterprise Business Applications (EBA), a City-wide project focused on integrating and replacing software applications where needed, the City explains.

Since its inception in 2015 with implementation of the Tempest software, many Inspections and Licensing application processes have been enhanced to include an option for online submissions and customer self-service.

The next step in the process is to move other application processes online, including compliance, earthworks, secondary suites, show homes and signs.
