Student stabbed by another near Lindsay Thurber high school

Jun 15, 2023 | 4:20 PM

RCMP are investigating a stabbing near Lindsay Thurber Comprehensive High School.

In a letter that went out to parents Thursday afternoon, it’s stated by the school that an altercation took place between two students off school property resulting in one of them being stabbed.

Once the two students returned to the school, staff responded and the Red Deer RCMP were contacted.

After being placed in a hold and secure status as a precaution, classes resumed as normal.

RCMP confirmed Thursday afternoon that they were called at about 12:50 p.m.

Investigation revealed that the incident took place on 55 Street, which runs east-west past the school grounds.

One student was stabbed with a knife, police say. The victim was transported to hospital and is receiving medical treatment for a non-life-threatening injury.

One youth has been arrested for assault with a weapon, and the file is currently under investigation.

“RCMP want to advise that this was an isolated incident and we do not believe there is a risk to the community,” Mounties say.
