At least 15 dead after crash on Manitoba highway
WINNIPEG — RCMP confirmed Thursday afternoon that 15 people have died, and 10 more have been taken to hospital, following a highway crash west of Winnipeg.
The crash, which happened just before noon in Manitoba, took place near Carberry, about 170 km west of Winnipeg, at the intersection of Highway 1 and Highway 5.
RCMP say a bus carrying mostly seniors was en route from Dauphin to an unconfirmed destination. Unconfirmed reports said they were headed to a nearby casino. The other vehicle in the crash was a semi-trailer.
Photos supplied to The Canadian Press by a witness at the scene show what looks like a large van smouldering in a ditch alongside the road.
