Red Deer County issues Fire Ban

As of June 9, 2023 at 3:00 p.m., a Fire Ban is in effect for Red Deer County.

The County requires that:

1. All outdoor fires presently burning within Red Deer County whether set with permission or under permit of the County, be extinguished immediately, and

2. The ignition of all new outdoor fires within the boundaries of Red Deer County are hereby prohibited, and

3. No new fire permits will be issued.

This ban DOES NOT apply to:

1. Fires, which are contained within cooking and heating appliances and which are fueled by propane or natural gas

2. Fires contained within industrial facilities for operational purpose

3. Approved Gas/Propane fueled fire pits/stoves/barbecues

4. Catalytic or infrared-style heaters

For greater clarity this FIRE BAN includes, but is not limited to:

  • Recreational fires
  • Burn Barrels
  • Discharge of fireworks
  • Use of exploding targets
  • Charcoal Barbeques
  • Any other form of outside burning unless exempted above

County officials remind you that Off-Highway Vehicles can start wildfires – so check frequently to ensure hotspots are free of debris, and make sure mufflers and spark arrestors are working properly.

Any person violating conditions of this ban may be held liable for any damages and/or costs associated with extinguishing the fire and full prosecution with penalties, in accordance with Red Deer County FIRE SERVICES BYLAW 2012/14 and/or the Forest Prairie Protection Act RSA.
