Annual Great Canadian Giving Challenge returns to support local charities this June

Jun 2, 2023 | 5:09 PM

CanadaHelps has launched their eighth annual Great Canadian Giving Challenge this June, encouraging Canadians to say ‘yes’ to charitable donating.

The registered charity says the month of June is typically referred to as the ‘summer giving drought’ as people being to prioritize other spending for the season.

The challenge is a national public contest designed to benefit any and all registered Canadian charities. Every dollar donated to a registered charity in June through the website automatically enters the charity into a raffle to win an additional $20,000 donation, which will be drawn on July 1 of that year.

“Since every dollar donated is one entry, a bigger donation means a bigger chance of winning,” said the organization in a release.

Last year, the Challenge raised more than $24 million, and the organization says they hope to raise even more this year.

For local charities, the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) of Central Alberta will be participating in the challenge for a chance at the $20,000 prize. The organization promotes community wellness by supporting those with mental illness, brain injuries, and addictions.

CanadaHelps says the donations can help the CMHA keep essential staff whose roles serve around 500 vulnerable community members by helping them connect to proper support, find a doctor or psychiatrist, find income and housing, and more.
