Breton RCMP investigate fatal collision

One person has died and another injured following a crash between a passenger vehicle and semi-truck in Wetaskiwin County Monday night.

On May 29, 2023, at approximately 11:06 p.m., Breton RCMP received a report of a serious collision involving a semi-truck and a passenger vehicle on Highway 22 near Township Road 454 in Wetaskiwin County.

Breton RCMP attended and say Emergency Medical Services and Fire Services were already on scene. Mounties say the 30-year-old male passenger of the vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene. The name of the deceased will not be released.

Police further note the 46-year-old male driver of the vehicle was in serious condition and originally transported to hospital by ground ambulance, but later transported to another facility by STARS air ambulance.

The 52-year-old male driver of the semi-truck was uninjured.

Breton RCMP’s preliminary investigation indicates a semi-truck was heading southbound on Highway 22 when it collided with the passenger vehicle that failed to stop at the intersection.

Alberta RCMP Collision Analyst and a Criminal Collision Investigation Team was engaged and are assisting in this investigation.

Police say further updates will be provided when additional information is available.
