January 2022 Incident

Over two years in jail for Red Deer County man charged in stolen vehicle crash

May 29, 2023 | 2:01 PM

A Red Deer County man charged in a crash in north Red Deer last year involving a stolen vehicle has been sentenced to 27 and-a-half months in jail.

This after Kevin Leo Gallagher, 39, was convicted on six counts in Red Deer Court of Justice earlier this month.

Gallagher was sentenced to 12 months for failing to stop after an accident, eight months consecutive for operation while prohibited, three months consecutive for making/possessing identity documents, three months consecutive for possession of property over $5000, and 45 days for failing to comply with a probation order, and fail to comply with a release order.

It was on Jan. 21, 2022, when Red Deer RCMP located a stolen vehicle, which had been reported stolen earlier that day. Upon attempts to stop it, Mounties say the vehicle fled.

Later that evening at approximately 10 p.m., members of the Crime Reduction Unit located the stolen vehicle, but the vehicle once again fled as police attempted to stop it.

According to police, CRT officers then came upon the stolen vehicle after it had struck another vehicle at the intersection of Gaetz and 71 Street where the stolen vehicle had driven through a red light. Following the collision, the suspect exited the vehicle and fled on foot.

Red Deer RCMP members followed and arrested the suspect as he was attempting to gain entrance to a home in the area.
