Trial scheduled for man charged in Sundre homicide

Trial dates have been set for a Sundre man charged in a local homicide last summer.

Solaimane Elbettah, 28, is scheduled for trial from Feb. 26-March 8, 2024, in Calgary Court of King’s Bench following a preliminary hearing earlier this spring.

Elbettah was charged with first-degree murder after a man was found dead at a McDonald’s restaurant in central Alberta early on July 4, 2022.

RCMP say 19-year-old Josh Burns was found shortly after midnight when officers responded to reports of a homicide at the McDonald’s in Sundre.

RCMP said at the time they believed it was an isolated incident and did not disclose if any weapons were used. Mounties also didn’t say if the suspect was known to police.
