RCMP update: incident in Highland Green area involved gun shots

Red Deer RCMP have confirmed that a police incident last week in the Highland Green area involved gun shots.

In an update on Tuesday, RCMP said they responded with heavy police presence to a call of shots fired on May 17, 2023 in the area of 61 Ave and 63A St.

Police asked residents to avoid the area as it remained blocked during the investigation. However, they said there was no immediate threat to the public.

Officials state the Red Deer RCMP General Investigative Section (GIS), with the assistance of the RCMP Emergency Response Team, resolved the event without incident.

They say while RCMP continue to investigate, there is no risk to the public.
