Westerner Park names interim general manager of operations

May 18, 2023 | 4:04 PM

Westerner Park has named an interim general manager, this coming on the heels of news that CEO Mike Olesen will join the City of Red Deer.

Olesen, whose move was announced back in December 2022, will start with the City on June 19.

Ian Allan starts as Westerner interim GM, Operations, effective June 1.

Westerner Park calls the role crucial.

“I am honoured to have the opportunity to contribute to the continued growth and success of Westerner Park,” says Allan. “I look forward to working with the dedicated team and leveraging my expertise to enhance the operational efficiency of this exceptional organization.”

Allan has been part of the planning of several major events and projects, including as director of venues and sport for the 2019 Canada Winter Games Host Society.

Deb Beck, Westerner President & Board Chair, says Allan’s experience will prove invaluable.

“The Board has been diligently working on a transition plan since the announcement of Mike’s resignation, ensuring a seamless changeover,” Beck explained. “This period has allowed us to plan a solid transition strategy while we continue our search for the right replacement for our CEO.”

Westerner Park announced somewhat of a reimagined Westerner Days back in March, with the event coming up July 19-23.
