Red Deer Hospice’s annual live Butterfly Campaign fundraiser returns

May 17, 2023 | 4:15 PM

Red Deer Hospice’s annual live butterfly campaign fundraiser kicked off this Monday.

The Hospice says live butterflies can be purchased for release in remembrance of a loved one, to celebrate a milestone in life or to give hope to someone who needs it, all while supporting end-of-life care in central Alberta.

They describe how butterflies are often considered a representation of the various stages of life and demonstrate that simple changes and time can make life even more beautiful than before.

“The release of butterflies can be a very healing experience,” said Jerri Taylor, the Hospice’s Executive Director. “It’s a wonderful way to bring comfort to family and friends who have experienced a loss.”

Hospice officials add that all the butterflies will be of the Painted Lady variety, thoughtfully chosen as they are natural to the local area and are beneficial pollinators, helping maintain nearby flowering plants and habitat.

Butterflies are $25 each and can be purchased on the Red Deer Hospice website until May 26, 2023.

Officials say all orders will be individually packed and distributed via curbside pick-up at the Hospice (99 Arnot Ave) on Friday, June 23, 2023.
