Red Deer group traversing Canada on bike for Big Brothers Big Sisters

May 9, 2023 | 4:07 PM

A group of Red Deerians is going to see as much of Canada as is possible by bicycle, and it’s all in support of Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) of Red Deer.

Ben Pelletier, a local teacher, and strong supporter of BBBS and Youth HQ, decided he wanted to go from Vancouver to Halifax to try and give back.

Pelletier, who departed with his group from Vancouver on May 1, is joined by Logan Davey, Keith Weber, Jade Weber, Tristan McDonald and Karina Bennett.

“As a teacher here in Red Deer, I have had the chance to visit Youth HQ, and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Red Deer, and simply love what they do for the youth in this city,” says Pelletier. “All donations will go directly to support this awesome organization.”

A GoFundMe has been set up to support the cause.

Pelletier estimates the trip, which is being documented on the GoFundMe page, to take two months, and is about 6,000 kilometres.

“We at Youth HQ applaud the efforts of this group of amazing individuals,” says John Johnston, Youth HQ Community Engagement Manager. “What an adventure they are embarking upon, and what a great way to support the amazing work of Big Brothers Big Sisters.”
