Town of Sylvan Lake hosts first Lemonade Day this August to teach youth about business

The Town of Sylvan Lake couldn’t be fresher this summer.

On Saturday, August 12, the Town will be hosting their very first Sylvan Lake Lemonade Day for youth to open and operate their own lemonade stands.

“Spring and Summer are the perfect seasons in Sylvan Lake for young kids to taste the sweet success of being their own boss and launching their own small business – a lemonade stand,” said town officials in a release.

They say through a fun, hands-on experience, kids aged eight to 11 will learn how to create a business plan, budget, set goals, serve customers, and make hard-earned cash.

The day was founded in 2007 by Michael Holthouse, a prominent business man in Texas, to support you and experiential learning.

The program is free and once kids cover their expenses with the profits earned, they get to keep the rest. Officials say kids are encouraged to save their profits, share them with the community and spend a bit on themselves as a reward.

Participants can open their stands wherever they would like in the town and add their location to the Lemonade Day map.

The mission of the day, according to the website, is for youth to become business leaders, social advocates, community volunteers, and forward-thinking citizens of tomorrow.

To register by the June 1 deadline, visit the Youth Programs and Services section of the Town’s website.

Business owners can also mentor the next generation of entrepreneurial leaders by becoming a “Sweet Spot”, hosting the stand in front of their locations and chaperoning from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

More information can be found on the Lemonade Day website or their Frequently Asked Questions sheet.
