The Transportation Safety Board (TSB) is investigating an incident with a helicopter which occurred on May 4, 2023 at the Edson Airport.

Thankfully, the pilot suffered only minor injuries, but was taken to hospital as a precaution, RCMP confirm.

In a statement, TSB Communications Team Lead Sophie Wistaff says the incident occurred at about 8 p.m.

“An Airbus AS350 B2 helicopter was operating out of the Edson Airport in support of forest fire fighting operations in the area. At approximately 8 p.m., the helicopter rolled onto its side while landing,” Wistaff says.

“The pilot, who was the sole occupant, was able to extract themselves from the helicopter. The helicopter sustained substantial damage; there was no post-impact fire.”

The helicopter is said to be privately-owned, with the company unknown at this time.

TSB personnel are headed to the site to gather information and assess what happened.

We will share more information as it becomes available.
