May 1 temperature records set in Red Deer and surrounding communities
Warmer than normal temperatures throughout many parts of the province over the past few days have unofficially at least, resulted in some new temperature records being set.
According to Environment and Climate Change Canada, the Red Deer area set a new temperature record of 27.2 degrees Celsius on May 1, beating the old record of 25.1 degrees Celsius set on May 1, 1980. Records in this area have been kept since 1904.
Elsewhere, the Lacombe area set a new record of 27.5 degrees Celsius on May 1, surpassing the old record of 26.7 degrees Celsius set on the same date in 1941. Records in this area have been kept since 1907.
In the Rocky Mountain House area, a new record of 28.1 degrees Celsius was set on May 1, surpassing the previous record of 25.2 degrees Celsius set in 1980. Records in this area have been kept since 1915.
