Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools has selected Mitchell Gaumont as a division finalist for the Alberta School Boards Association 2023 Edwin Parr Award.

The award honours first-year teachers.

Gaumont is a teacher at St. Gregory the Great in Blackfalds.

“We are extremely proud of Mitchell for being selected as Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools Edwin Parr finalist. Mitchell is an exceptional teacher who shares his passion for math and science with his students through engaging and authentic lessons. Whether in the classroom, during collaboration meetings, coaching, or supervising at extracurricular events, Mitchell displays excellent leadership and relationship-building skills throughout our entire school community. His classroom has quickly become the hub of the middle school wing, where students gather during non-instructional time to socialize, catch-up on missed work or receive additional support if needed,” said Principal, Rose McQuay at St. Gregory the Great Catholic School.

“Mitchell has a remarkable career ahead of him and we wish him all the best through the next stage of this exciting process.”

Gaumont is one of two teachers selected by RDCRS as a finalist for the award this year. Macailee Finnigan, a grade nine teacher at St. Francis of Assisi middle school, was also nominated.

The Edwin Parr Award was established in 1964, with six winners to be chosen at the ASBA’s fall general meeting.
