Esports Academy open house at Lindsay Thurber

Apr 11, 2023 | 2:13 PM

Students can build their game at Lindsay Thurber’s new Esports Academy this fall.

“Esports continues to grow globally at a rapid pace, and we are excited to offer another choice for our students as a way to develop skills that could potentially be used in a variety of careers in technology-based industries,” said Chris Good, Principal at Lindsay Thurber. “The Esports Academy is a way to ignite student’s interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics), allowing students the opportunity to change perceptions that esports is not sitting on the couch playing video games, but is an opportunity to learn how to gain skills and knowledge which they can leverage into their future careers.”

The Esports Academy is offered to high school students in Grades 9 and 10 at Lindsay Thurber Comprehensive High School, with the Academy being run out of LTCHS’ new esports lab.

Families can learn more about the new Esports Academy at an open house that will be held on April 17 at 7 p.m. in the Learning Commons at Lindsay Thurber. All families, including those who do not currently attend LTCHS, are invited to attend.
