A trial date has been scheduled for two of five people initially charged in a crash involving a vehicle fleeing police in Wetaskiwin that seriously injured a motorist.

Richard Stanley Soosay, 30, of Maskwacis, and Cherise Dana Crane, 25, of Red Deer, are both scheduled for trial in Wetaskiwin provincial court on Oct. 23, 2023.

It was on Jan. 5, 2023, when Wetaskiwin RCMP say they received a report of an individual in the city with a firearm on 37a Ave. As officers arrived, they say the suspect entered a Ford F150 pickup and fled.

Officers say they initially attempted to stop the vehicle; however, due to the dangerous driving and speed, they disengaged and did not pursue any further.

Shortly after, the vehicle collided with a Chevy Equinox at the intersection of 56 St. and 40 Ave. The driver of the Equinox, a 61-year-old male, received serious injuries and was taken to hospital.

RCMP arrested six occupants of the Ford F150, which had been reported stolen on Dec. 31, 2022. A replica hand gun was also seized.

As a result of the investigation, five individuals were charged.
