Red Deer’s First Fridays art gallery openings held on April 14

The Red Deer Arts Council has announced the First Fridays gallery openings for April 14.

First Fridays Red Deer is a monthly event where downtown art galleries hold exhibit openings and special events.

Due to the Easter statutory holiday on Friday, April 7, the First Fridays event in April was moved by one week.

The new interactive Gallery Guide with a map and listings can be found on the City of Red Deer’s website.

Description: “This juried Group Show is curated by Tanya Zuzak Collard, MFA and it features the works of 24 local and regional artists that have responded to the theme of ‘Spring Air, capturing moments as this season arrives.’ Each artist has looked into their world for their inspiration; of shifting colour palettes, the greening of the earth, the arrival of young animals and birds, and the joy and beauty of all of spring’s glorious blooms. It’s a show that is full of gratitude for the days of light and warmth and the beauty that springs forth after a cold, long winter,” said officials in a release.

Title: Long Live: Red Deer Polytechnic Year End Student Exhibition

The Red Deer Museum + Art Gallery, 4525 47A Ave

April 14th, 5 – 8 p.m.

Description: “This year has been a renewal for the program as the campus fully reopened with students from all programs back in person for classes. The title, Long Live, is a call and a toast to this return, while also a nod to the RDP sports teams Queens and Kings. Long Live Art! Long Live Ceramics! Long Live Painting! Long Live Drawing!,” said officials in a release.

The exhibit consists of first and second year student work in media, representational of what is taught in the Visual Art Program at Red Deer Polytechnic, officials say.
