E-scooters are back on Red Deer sidewalks for final year of pilot project

E-scooters are back in Red Deer for the final season of a three-year pilot project.

Two providers, Neuron and Bird, are supplying the scooters. At the onset of last season, there were four.

“Red Deerians have embraced e-scooters, which is clear by the great number of trips taken and kilometres covered within our city,” says Mayor Ken Johnston.

“It’s great to see reports that outline the positive economic impact e-scooters have made, which has given our local businesses a boost. We are glad to see the return of e-scooters again this season, and we look forward to another safe and fun season of mobility, exploring and supporting Red Deer.”

Last October, Neuron reported that each one of its 250 e-scooters contributed about $9,800 to the local economy. It also estimated that 74 per cent of e-scooter journeys resulted in a purchase from a local business.

Riders must be at least 16-years-old, and helmets are highly recommended.

The season rolls through to the end of October.
