House destroyed by fire on Saturday in Riverside Meadows

Mar 18, 2023 | 2:14 PM

No one was hurt, but a home in Riverside Meadows was destroyed by fire on Saturday.

The home in the 5800 block of 60 Street was a bungalow, with two suites downstairs.

Red Deer Emergency Services Deputy Chief Chris Kearns says there were four people in the home when the fire broke out, two up and two down. The 911 call came in just after 9 a.m. from one of the tenants, who all got out safely.

Crews were there quickly with 22 personnel.

Initially, only smoke was showing but the fire was in fact so bad that the house ends up being a write-off, says Kearns.

There was no damage to neighbouring homes, though neighbours on each side were evacuated as a precaution.

There were also no animals present at the home.

Kearns says the cause is still under investigation, but RCMP are not involved.

Most crew members left the scene around 1 p.m.
