The Red Deer Home Show is BUILDING excitement this weekend at Westerner Park.

From March 10-12, over 160 exhibitors will be set up at Exhibition Hall (4847A 19 St), covering areas in home building, renovations, interior design, gardening and more.

“If you’re looking for anything new, anything home related really, it’s a good place to check out new ideas or find help along the way,” said Courtenay Whitehouse, Building Industry and Land Development Association (BILD) Board President.

Whitehouse says between 7,000 – 10,000 attendees are expected to visit the event that started back in 1979. He says it’s a great way to kick off the spring season when people get “the itch” to do something around the house.

At the Prairie Pavilion, eight speakers will be discussing various topics from home improvement, interior design, gardening, construction, energy efficiency, sustainability and more.

Habitat for Humanity will also have their annual pop-up restore, selling donated new and gently-used furniture and décor for a low price with all proceeds going towards building simple and affordable housing for low-income families.

Among other show features, guests can tour a tiny home, built by local Tiny Tree Hugger Homes, hop onto the Capstone Discovery Bus to learn more about the development in an immersive and interactive experience, and visit various non-profit organization and charity booths.

Whitehouse says the show also provides a good boost to the local economy.

“I know a lot of exhibitors that really rely on the show as far as driving a lot of their sales for a good portion of the year,” he said. “As far as attendees go, seeing the new stuff out there, getting some excitement of what they can do in their home, in and out, or something new; it builds excitement for the season.”

Tickets can be bought at a reduced rate on their website for $12 or $10 for seniors aged 60 and over. Admission is free for kids under 12. Seniors also get a discount day on Friday with a $6 ticket at the door.

Show hours are Friday from 12 – 8 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
