International Women’s Day event happening this Sunday in Penhold

To mark International Women’s Day (Wednesday, March 8), Soroptimist International of Central Alberta is hosting a celebration this weekend.

The event goes Sunday, March 12 fro, 2:30-5 p.m. at the Penhold Memorial Hall.

“We are very pleased this year to present Mercedes Messinger with our Ruby Award for Women helping Women, said Sherri Smith, President of Soroptimist International of Central Alberta. “Mercedes is from Mirror and is being honored for helping those that experience adversity. She aims to inspire others to have empathy, to be generous, compassionate and accepting and to think diverse. She is a strong supporter of many organizations in our community.”

The club, which is celebrating 35 years, will also present two Live Your Dream Awards to Delaney Leger and Kalisha Mendonsa.

The Violet Richardson Award for young female volunteers will be presented to Ashley Bull, a grade 12 students at St. Joseph High School who’s been helping at The Mustard Seed and hopes to pursue a career as a registered nurse.
